Ice is a requirement for campers using coolers like me. After a couple of days, it is gone. Then the fun starts. Finding more. Some campgrounds sell ice during the peak season, most don’t. And if they do it costs two to three bucks for a bag. Plus the bags are getting smaller. 10, 8, 7, and as little as 5 pounds.
I have thought about getting a portable ice maker but the cost put me off. Plus, most campgrounds out west don’t have power anyway. But where I will be be this year, well, they almost all have power in the east and midwest.
So when a fellow camper offered to sell me an almost new one for $50, I bought it. If it lasts one month I will break even. It’s been going strong for 10 days so far.
Freddy likes it as well.
So it was slightly ironic when I arrived at my latest stop two days after the campground opened. They sold ice. They were defrosting the machine. And they were giving away the old ice.
I nabbed a couple of the larger bags.
I couldn’t just watch it melt and…Owww!
“Freddy, quit nipping my toes.”
“You said on my birthday I could write the blog!”
“OK, but I wasn’t done yet. I was talking about ice and…Owww!”
“Boring. Get over it. My turn.”
Hi everybody, it’s me, Freddy! It’s my first birthday today. I don’t know what that means but humans seem to make a big deal about theirs every year.
I adopted Greg when I was nine weeks old. He pointed a big black thing at me. He does that a lot. Calls it a camera.
I wanted to nibble on it.
He bought a thing to go around my neck and a sign for it.
He said my name is Freddy. I said I could live with that.
Then I discovered water not in a bowl. I love to eat water!
Actually I will eat anything.
I went to big water and sandy places. They are some of my favorites.
My first chair was small because I was small.
I liked it!
I met some poodles. My dad is a poodle named Chewie! I like to chew.
I really like to chew. I tried chewing the rope thing.
Greg told me to stop. I stared him down.
But I usually smile.
I like going for long walks, but I still had little legs. When I was 4 months old I looked like this:
Nine days later, I looked like this:
Greg said I had chicken legs. I didn’t know what that meant. He said they were birds. I like birds. Good chewies! Since I was bigger, I could guard against the long legged cats.
And play with big dogs.
I kept walking and growing and getting wet.
At six months old I was a big dog.
For the next 6 months I had lots of fun!
Found some new chewies.
And got a big dog chair.
It just kept getting better!
The long legged cats kept their distance.
I kept playing!
At Christmas I met my best friend Beau!
Then it was back on the road.
I finally learned how to pee properly according to Greg. But I was too far away from the big stick.
I love sticks!
The only thing I like better than sticks is getting dirty!
And cats and…Hey!
“Enough, Freddy. You had your turn.”
“But…”
“Enough. You said only 20 pictures.”
So today is Freddy’s birthday. I got him some clothes. He is still a little wet from this morning’s walk but I think he likes the look.
Regards,
Greg (and me, Freddy!)
How cool getting a ice cube maker, and nice to see Freddy going from a pup to perhaps a teenager. Happy Travels!
ReplyDeleteHey Freddy, you should post some pictures of Greg! You know he is kind of a big deal. Ice maker, yeah. Bagged ice was something I hadn't budgeted for and making the cubes in a tray in the freezer is so sixties.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Freddy from his bro, Dallas! You can see pictures on Instagram @dallas.the.doodle :) Awesome blog!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Freddy from your Grandparents in the Netherlands. It is cold and hailing here so we have plenty of ice.
