Cool d'Alene

The pup and I headed east from the Puget Sound area, fueled by rumors of a revamped and pet friendly campground just east of Coeur d’Alene.

Yeah, we will see.

We have heard that line before but for once we were very pleasantly surprised. It was all that and more.

Luckily we had a site reserved for Memorial Day weekend because the campground was filling up fast on Friday.

Freddy sniffed water and immediately wanted to find it.

He did.

He also found some other campers in a paddle boat.

He was a happy pup!

That was Friday. Let’s see what we found the next day.

The campground offers free firewood, free use of paddle boats and a canoe, free wifi, hot showers, and spotless bathrooms.

So let’s take a walk throughout the park.

Across from our site is a log cabin bathroom. But what I really like is the outdoor dish washing sink.

All campgrounds should have these available.

Stops folks from doing dishes in the restroom. And they do, if no alternative is offered.

Heading towards the river and lake you can see the mixture of open and shaded sites.

Freddy met a friend at this site. In fact, he has met so many friends in this campground that it is almost puppy overload.

Even a beautiful poodle.

Freddy is half poodle so they sniffed noses and did high fives.

This is a very dog friendly campground. If you can voice control your pet, leave them off the leash. Camping is for canines as well. Freddy understands my voice but doesn’t always listen. He wants to play with everybody so is mostly on a leash.

The pool and clubhouse are right behind the campers in the pic above. Even though my favorite color is green, the pool will not remain that way come June.

I mentioned revamping earlier and this will be exciting. A new store will be added providing the basic necessities.

To the left in the pic above is a small shed full of FREE FIREWOOD!

Right in front of the store towards the water is the tent camping area.

That’s right. You poor maligned downtrodden tenters get the best seat in the house.

How is that for a waterfront site?

Boating and fishing is happening here. Grab a free boat or bring your own.

And enjoy the flatwater. No wakes from speedboats.

Let’s zoom in a little bit.

So many kids having so much fun.

A walk in tenting island just adds the cool factor.

I could see that area being rented out for a wedding ceremony.

Freddy is tugging on the leash. He sees another pup. So I let them play.

Freddy gives this campground two paws up!

In fact, we both like it so much that we are going to stay here for the forseeable future. I will be doing all the campground’s social media including a new blog and Freddy will continue being Freddy.

You can follow Freddy’s summer fun at campcda.blogspot.com.

Greg and Freddy
