Oasis Fishing Derby

Oasis State Park can be found about 7 miles north of Portales and twice that south of Clovis.

Complete park details can be found in my post from last October.

It is also a seven hour drive from our last campground at Rockhound State Park where we enjoyed the flower bloom.

The day before the event the weather was perfect. Sunny and 75. The lake was like a mirror.

Things changed on Saturday morning. The temperature dropped 30 degrees and a northeast wind of 30 - 40 mph blew into the park.

But fishing is a year round sport and folks actually cut holes in ice covered lakes in pursuit of their finny foes so the everybody just bundled up and wet their lines.

Plenty of fish were caught and prizes were awarded. Everyone laughed off the weather and had a great time.

A daily double was landed by this happy guy.

A raptor circled above. I am guessing Osprey but I don't know if they are found in the area.

And who says size matters?

Below is my favorite photo of the event. You can tell by the smile in her eyes that she is having a great time.

Or maybe she cannot believe the size of the bass.
