Complete campground details can be found in my post from last year.

Let's take a walk up Cootes Hill for some views.
To the south is the campground.
To the north is the town of Columbus.
Here is a quote from Wikipedia:
"The Village of Columbus and Camp Furlong is a National Historic Landmark District commemorating the 1916 raid by Pancho Villa on the town of Columbus, New Mexico, and the American military response to that raid, the "Punitive Expedition"led by General John J. Pershing. The raid and its response, set during World War I, the Mexican Revolution, and an accompanying low-level Border War, played a significant role in diplomacy and military preparedness for eventual American entry in the World War. The district encompasses buildings which survived the raid, and military facilities used in the American response. The landmark designation was made in 1975."
So once a year in March the town of Columbus celebrates with a horse parade starting at the border along with other festivities. Last year the parade was led by one of Pancho Villa's grandsons. This year a cute puppy showed up first.
And everyone had their phones out, even the riders.
The parade then turned towards the town square.

The two National Anthems were played.
There was plenty of delicious food and cool crafts.
All of this is within walking distance of the campground. Including two great restaurants.
Borderland cooks up a great large pepperoni for just $13. Trust me. First pizza I have bought in over a year. I lived on it for two days.
Right across the street is the city museum.
If you like bigger stuff, the State Park has an amazing museum.
The Pancho Villa death mask that was delivered last year is on display.
Which reminded me of this from last year.
And what happened next, well, what happens in Columbus stays in Columbus.
It's a prickly world out there, especially in the desert. The park has a cactus garden showcasing some of the local plants.
But let's play a game. I will show you them and you have to guess the species. The answers will at the end. Ready? OK, let's go!
And here are the answers in order.
If you got them all correct, you win a taco. If any of the names are wrong, blame the signs. The garden needs a bit of love.
My favorite was the Invasion of the Body Snatchers plant.
Yep, you can hear the pod people inside. Scratching to get out. And come visit you in the middle of the night. Sleep well...

Greg and Freddy
